Wegovy’s active ingredient, Semaglutide, falls under the category of GLP-1 agonists, similar to the weight loss drug Saxenda. This medication activates the production of the hormone GLP-1, which stimulates the production of insulin in your pancreas and also helps you to regulate your appetite.

Who can use Wegovy?

Prescription of Wegovy is limited to individuals with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with weight-related conditions like type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. Certain contraindications, such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, thyroid problems, or digestive conditions, may deem the medication unsuitable.

What dosage of Wegovy should I take?

Normally you will start with 0.25mg injection, then increase the strength every 4 weeks until maintenance dose of 1.7mg or 2.4mg.
